With the culmination of the T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi, ICC has announced the roadmap for the ICC Tournaments scheduled to take place in the next 10 years.

With an ICC World T20 already scheduled in Australia in 2022 and an ODI 50 Over World Cup in 2023 scheduled in India, ICC has provided a roadmap for the ICC events from 2024 to 2031.

The ICC has taken some really good initiatives such as expanding the number of participants in T20 World Cup and also reintroducing the Champions Trophy in the next period.

Also special efforts have been taken to hold atleast one ICC event every year till 2031. Then there is also the World Test Championship Finals that will be held every alternative odd years.

In Women's cricket ICC has mapped every year with an ICC event. The same goes for the U19 setup too where there will be atleast 1 ICC event in every year. This will ensure more competitivenness in both the sectors. Also bringing in the associate nations as event hosts will enhance the decentralization process of World Cricket.

Let us look at some of the major highlights in hosting the ICC events.

Bringing the Associate Nations in to the picture:

One of the major establishments in hosting the ICC events is to include the Associate Nations as co-hosts. As many as 3 Associate Nations will be debuting as the co-hosts of World Cups for the first time ever. This step has been considered after UAE and Oman hosted a successful T20 World Cup 2021 in the pandemic times.

The USA will be the co-hosts in holding the T20 World Cup in 2024 with the West Indies. Namibia will be hosting the 2027 World Cup whereas Scotland will play hosts to the 2030 World T20.

Bringing Cricket back to Pakistan:

Pakistan has been one of the ill-fated nations when it comes to hosting cricket in recent times. International cricket has been absent from Pakistan for over a decade now. The 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan for the first time and Pakistan will walk in as the Defending Champions in it having won it in 2017.

More teams in T20 World Cup:

12 Teams participated in the 2021 T20 World Cup. The rest 6 teams participated in the Qualifiers prior to the Super 12. However, proposals have been given to increase the number of teams to 20 from the upcoming editions.

Reintroducing the now defunct Champions Trophy:

The Champions Trophy formerly known as the Mini World Cup has been one of the prestigious ICC events in the start of the decade. However, it was declared as defunct post the 2017 edition as there was no exclusive slot for it. But the new revamped ICC structure has decided to bring back the Champions Trophy at its full galore.
